If you're between the ages 7 and 20, you might be interested in one of
the Scouting programs. If you're a parent, you might be interested in being
selected a Scout leader.
What is Scouting
Scouting promises you the great outdoors. As a Scout, you can learn how
to camp and hike without leaving a trace and how to take care of the land.
You'll study wildlife up close and learn about nature all around you. There
are plenty of skills for you to master, and you can teach others what you
have learned. Everyone helping everyone else - that's part of Scouting, too.
Scouting promises you friendship. Members of the unit you join might be
people you already know, and you will meet many other Scouts along the way.
Some could become lifelong friends.
Scouting promises you tools to help you make the most of your family,
community, and nation. The good deeds you perform every day will improve the
lives of those around you. You will be prepared to help others in time of
need.
Scouting promises you experiences and duties that will help you mature into
a strong, wise adult.
Scouting Programs
- Boys age 7 or First Grade can join Tiger Cubs
- Boys age 7-10 or grades 2 - 5 can join Cub Scouts
- Boys age 11 - 17 can join Boy Scouts
- Young men and women ages 14 - 20 can join Venturing and Exploring.
- Note that any youth may be a Scout without regard to background or
economic status; resources are available for Special Needs youth.
- Adult leaders are selected by the chartering organization and unit
committee and approved by the council Scout Executive; they are trained to
deliver the promise of scouting to youth in Scouting programs (and have a
lot of fun as Scouting volunteers)
- Contact the District Scout Executive that serves the
area where you live. (You can phone the Scout Service Center at
865.588.6514 to get the name and number of your Executive. Or you can use
the District Page on this website.)
- When speaking to the District Executive, it is helpful
to know the child's school, neighborhood, and town in order to locate a
Scout unit in your area.
- The District Executive will give you the names and
numbers of units that are in your area.
- Contact the unit leader and fill out a joining
application for your child. Adults are required to complete an adult
application to be considered for selection as a Scout leader.
